Your Privacy
How we collect, use, and protect the information you share with us — including through the intake chat.
Effective: upon publication of this website, and as amended from time to time.
This Privacy Policy explains how Causation Therapy® and Dr. Charles Richards ("we," "us," "our") collect, use, and share information when you use this website and the intake chat. By using the intake chat, you agree to the practices described here.
The intake chat is powered by a third-party AI provider, Anthropic. The messages you enter are sent to Anthropic's systems to generate responses. We do not use these conversations to provide therapy, diagnosis, or medical advice.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
We keep your information for as long as needed for the purposes described above [insert your retention period, e.g. "up to 24 months," or "until you ask us to delete it"]. You can request deletion at any time (see "Your Rights").
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
This website and the intake chat are not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Card payments are processed by third-party payment providers. We never receive or store your full card number. The provider handles the card details directly and returns to us only what we need to fulfill your order: your name, email, billing country, the amount, and a transaction reference. Where a session is booked with a deposit, the payment provider also keeps your card on file so the remaining balance can be taken on the date shown when you booked. What we hold is a reference to that card, never the card number itself, and you may ask us to remove it at any time.
Where a purchase requires shipping, we collect the delivery address and use it for that purpose only.
We keep purchase records only for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
If you become a client, information you share in sessions is held as a clinical record and is governed by the confidentiality obligations of a licensed psychotherapist in California, not merely by this policy. Those obligations are stricter than the terms set out here.
The limits on that confidentiality are set by law, not by us. They are explained in full in the consent paperwork you receive before your first session.
Sessions are recorded only with prior written consent. Consent is never assumed.
You may withdraw it at any time. Refusing has no effect on your care.
Dr. Richards writes and teaches using accounts of real sessions. Your story is never used without your separate written consent, given on a form that lets you permit some uses.
Where consent is given, names are changed and identifying details are altered unless you have specifically agreed otherwise. You may withdraw consent at any time; material already printed in a published book cannot be recalled.
Declining changes nothing about your care.
If you apply for practitioner training, we keep your application, including your written answers, to assess it and to contact you.
Enrolled trainees have portal accounts recording progress through the modules. Cohort sessions are recorded and made available to that cohort under a separate agreement signed before training begins.
This site uses cookies necessary for it to function, including keeping you signed in to the portal.
Blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the site, particularly the portal, from working.
For visitor numbers we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and builds no profile of you. It records that a page was viewed, roughly where in the world the request came from, which site referred it, and what kind of device was used. It does not follow you between sites, does not identify you, and the information is not sold or shared. There is nothing to opt out of, because there is nothing tracking you to switch off.
We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not record what you type or your movements on the page. Anything you enter in a form or in the assistant reaches us only when you send it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
