What this work is, what it is not, and what to do if you need help urgently.
Effective: upon publication of this website, and as amended from time to time.
If you are in crisis, do not use this site to seek help. Contact emergency services now. In the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 if you or someone else is in immediate danger. Outside the United States, contact your local emergency number.
Causation Therapy is a form of psychotherapy. It is not medical treatment, it is not psychiatric treatment, and it is not a substitute for either. We do not diagnose medical conditions, we do not treat them, and we do not prescribe, alter, or advise on any medication.
If you are under the care of a physician, psychiatrist, or other clinician, continue that care. Never stop or change prescribed medication because of anything experienced in a session or read on this site. Speak to the clinician who prescribed it.
Reading this site, taking a course, or using the intake chat does not create a therapist–client relationship.
The intake chat is an informational conversation assisted by AI. It is not therapy, not clinical advice, and not a diagnosis.
Client accounts on this site describe what particular people experienced. They are records, not predictions, and they are not a representation of what you will experience. Some issues resolve in a single session; most work unfolds over a series. Nobody can tell you in advance which yours will be.
This work is not appropriate for everyone. It is not suitable during acute psychosis, during an active psychiatric crisis, or where a person cannot enter and leave intense material safely. Dr. Richards assesses suitability at intake and will say plainly if he believes another form of care would serve you better, or if he thinks you should be seen alongside a physician or psychiatrist.
Declining to work with someone is not a judgement about them. It is a judgement about fit.
Certified Causation Therapy practitioners work within a defined scope. Those holding a clinical license practice under their own professional scope and ethical code. Those without a clinical license offer the work as a complementary modality: they do not diagnose, do not treat mental health or physical conditions, and refer where a presentation calls for it.
Practitioners in the network are independent. They are responsible for their own practice, their own insurance, and their own compliance with the law where they work.
Charles L. Richards, Ph.D., is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, license number 23150. He holds a doctorate in Psychology.
This work involves past-life material. You are not asked to believe anything in advance, and belief is not necessary for the work to be effective. Nothing here is offered as religious instruction or as a substitute for anyone's faith.
