A New Science of the Soul

Causation Therapy

A precise methodology that resolves emotional wounds, karmic patterns, and life-long blocks at their true source, developed over thirty years and thousands of client sessions.

What It Is

The Work That Goes Where Other Methods Do Not

Every emotional wound has a source. Every recurring pattern in relationships, career, health, or behavior was set in motion by a specific event or events, a moment where something happened, was felt, and was never fully resolved. The pattern has been running ever since.

Most therapeutic approaches address the pattern at the surface level. They work with the symptoms, the anxiety, the depression, the destructive relationship dynamic, through analysis, reframing, or behavior modification. These approaches can be genuinely helpful. But they do not reach the root cause.

Causation Therapy is built on a different premise: the root cause of most persistent emotional patterns does not lie in this lifetime. It lies in the soul's history across lifetimes, in experiences so charged, so unresolved, that they continue to shape behavior, emotion, and perception long after the life in which they occurred has ended.

The method finds that source. Working in full waking consciousness, no hypnosis, no trance, the client is guided to the originating event. Once there, the emotional energy holding the pattern in place is fully re-experienced and discharged. The pattern lifts. The shift is immediate. The results endure.

Belief in past lives is not required. What is required is openness, a willingness to follow the process where it leads. The work is precise, methodical, and highly effective.

Where this method sits. Causation Therapy is the clinical method. It belongs to a wider system Dr. Richards has developed over four decades, Realization Psychology, which is built on the continuity of consciousness across lifetimes. Causation Therapy addresses the causal layer, where wounds are held and cleared. The system extends further, into the ground those wounds obscure: what remains when the pattern is gone, and what becomes available to a person who is ready to look. Most clients never need to go beyond the clearing. For those who do, there is further to go.

The Foundation

The Three Pillars of This Work

Causation Therapy rests on three propositions; each supported by evidence gathered over thirty years of practice.

01

The Soul Is Continuous

Consciousness does not end at death. The soul carries its history across lifetimes; its experiences, its unresolved emotional charges, and the karmic patterns set in motion by actions taken in prior lives. What we call a "personality" is a current expression of a much longer story.

02

Karma Is Precise

Karma is not punishment. It is a law of cause and effect operating at the level of the soul. Every thought, word, and deed of significance leaves an imprint or charge, positive or negative; that persists until it is met, understood, and resolved. This is what drives recurring patterns.

03

Resolution Is Possible

The charge can be found. When a client, in full waking consciousness, encounters the originating event, re-experiences the emotion, understands the dynamic, and releases the charge, the karmic pattern is resolved. Not managed. Resolved. The difference is permanent.

"Whether this was creative fantasy or an actual past life did not matter to me as a psychiatrist. What mattered was the result. I came skeptical. I left changed."
— Darla, M.D. · Psychiatrist

Why It Works

What Makes This Different

Earlier results — Causation Therapy

01

Earlier Results

What might take months or years in traditional therapy can shift in just a few Causation Therapy sessions, often with immediate, life-changing relief.

Resolving the root cause

02

Resolving the Root Cause

It goes beyond surface symptoms to uncover the true origins of emotional wounds, often rooted in past lives, prenatal experiences, or between-life agreements. Traditional therapy typically can't reach these deeper layers.

Fully conscious process

03

Fully Conscious Process

Unlike hypnotic regression, this process happens in full consciousness. You stay fully present, empowered, and in control throughout your journey.

The Shift

When the charge is released, the pattern no longer has a foundation. It simply ends.

Who This Work Serves

People often come to this work when they sense that the visible story is not the whole story.

01

When something keeps repeating

This work is well suited for those experiencing:

  • Recurring relationship patterns that begin well and end the same way
  • Phobias or fears with no traceable cause in this lifetime
  • Physical symptoms with no identified physiological cause
  • Persistent feelings of limitation, not-enoughness, or unworthiness
  • Intense attraction to, or conflict with, specific people
  • Grief, loss, or unresolved endings from this life or a sense of prior lives
  • A sense of carrying something that was never yours to carry
  • Interest in understanding the soul's larger arc and journey
02

When the deeper layer is calling

It has also served those who are:

  • Licensed therapists or individuals seeking a deeper methodology
  • Spiritual seekers who have done significant inner work but sense a deeper layer
  • High-performers hitting an invisible ceiling with no obvious explanation
  • Individuals who have tried conventional therapy without lasting results
  • Those facing major life transitions, death of loved ones, end of relationships, career pivots
  • People simply curious about the nature of the soul and what lies beyond this life
  • Those carrying unresolved traumas or emotional burdens

Karma is like gravity: it doesn’t care whether you believe in it or not.

Openness is the only prerequisite.

Questions

Frequently Asked

Can I use insurance?

Sessions are private pay, and Dr. Richards is not contracted with any insurance plan. On request he provides a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Before booking, it is worth calling the number on your insurance card and asking about your out-of-network outpatient mental health benefit. Full detail is on the sessions page.

Do I need to believe in past lives for this to work?

No. The method does not require a particular belief system. What is needed is openness, a willingness to follow the process where it leads. Many of Dr. Richards's most transformative sessions have been with clinicians, scientists an others who came explicitly skeptical. The result was the same. Whether what surfaces is considered "real" or "symbolic" is less important than what happens when the emotional charge releases.

Is this hypnosis?

No. This is one of the most important distinctions of Causation Therapy. The client remains in full waking consciousness throughout the session. There is no trance induction and no suggestions. The client is completely aware, experiencing, feeling, and understanding everything that arises. This full consciousness is what allows the discharge to be complete.

How many sessions does it take?

It varies. In some casses, a single Soul Journeys session often produces profound and lasting results on the specific pattern it addresses. Typically, clients return for additional sessions targeting one or more issues tied to a limited string of past lives. There is no prescribed sequence, the work is tailored entirely to what the individual client brings and what their consciousness reveals.

What does a session feel like?

Clients frequently describe the experience as unlike anything else they have done. The process involves periods of deep inward attention, emotional intensity as the source material surfaces, a release that is often physically felt, and then a profound clarity and lightness afterward. Many describe it as the most significant experience of their lives.

Can sessions be conducted remotely?

Yes. Dr. Richards also conducts sessions with clients worldwide via video. The depth and effectiveness of the work is not diminished by distance. What matters is the quality of the connection between therapist and client, and the willingness of the client to go inward.

Is this appropriate if I am already working with a therapist?

Yes. Many clients work with Causation Therapy alongside conventional psychotherapy. CT addresses layers that most conventional therapy does not reach; conventional therapy may provide ongoing support or possible behavioral tools as needed. The two are not in conflict.
